Google Adwords Conversion Data & Analytics Goals Data are NOW Linkable

After the latest updates on Search Query Report & Trademark policy for ad copy text, Google has come up with yet another user friendly feature for its inexhaustible list of users & advertisers.

An Adwords account holder can now track his analytics goals data next to the conversion tracking data in his Adwords Interface. To ensure the same, one just needs to follow a couple of simple steps listed below for ease of linkability:

  • The first step is to link your Adwords Account to its respective Analytics Account for the website.
  • Thereafter choose the “Data Sharing option” (in the Edit Section of your Analytics Account). Opting for “With other Google products only” would serve the purpose fine.
  • Move to your Adwords Account now & navigate to the Conversion tracking section.
  • Once the data sharing option has been checked in Analytics, you would get an alert message in your conversion tracking section stating that your goals are ready to be linked to your conversion data.
  • Just hit the “Link your Analytics goals and transactions”link there & follow the necessary steps to get going.
  • You would be required to pull down the analytics goals which you wish to show up here, from the listed menu. Just do that & click “Link” at the bottom of the table to finish the process.
  • Another advantage of this feature is that you can edit & rename the action which you choose, so that you can identify the goals once they show up in your AdWords conversion reports.

You would see your goals data being imported to the conversion tracking section from the day you link the two. However, no historical data would be available here. You would have to refer to your Analytics data separately for this purpose.

No matter what Inside Google triggered this update, it would for sure be a much required aid for its users, specially the ones owning e-commerce sites. In the true sense, setting up Goals in Google Analytics is easier & simpler in comparison to setting up advanced conversion tracking for shopping cart based sites, thanks to the “Regular Expression” & “Head Match” options available while setting up analytics goals. That really helps in case of lengthy dynamic URLs which make conversion tracking slightly messy in Adwords.

For now, this feature looks like being available only to the US advertisers; however let us hope they expand its reach soon !
